As you may or may not know, the CI lost both air conditioners in the
machine room early on 03/22/07 for approximately 8 hours. The
subsequent rise in temperature caused an already failing UPS to be
pushed over the edge and fail completely. This UPS serves power for
some critical pieces of the CI infrastructure including the switch in
the machine room. Because of this the UPS needs to be replaced ASAP
and we will be replacing it this Saturday March 31, 2007 between
09:00 and 12:00 CDT. Because the machine room switch will lose power,
all CI infrastructure will will be affected. We don't expect the
replacement to last longer than an hour but we will be taking the
opportunity to apply some critical security patches to all of the CI
servers. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

All major services should be back and operational. Some workstation
reboots will still occur in the next hour. With this downtime the
faulty UPS was replaced, the latest OS security patches and bugfixes
were applied, PVFS filesystems were upgraded to version 2.6.2, GPFS
filesystems were upgraded to 3.1.0-10, and NVIDIA drivers were
